Amazing Low Profile Focal Utopia Speakers with Marantz Flag-Ship Home Theater Components

Yesterday Michael and Eli installed this beautiful home theater system for one of our favorite customers in Snohomish County. This was actually a retrofit installation upgrading a system that was originally installed, using contractor grade speakers, when the home was built.

The original system design presented an immediate challenge as unfortunately the center speaker had been located several feet above where it should have been. To solve this problem we eliminated the center speaker all together and installed an amazing pair of Focal Utopia 1000 series in-wall speakers. The originally installed center speaker will be removed and patched as our customer has been planing to repaint the room. When this is done, the new speaker grills will also be removed and painted to match.

There are several unique aspects to Focal’s Utopia in-wall speakers. They come complete with acoustically tuned enclosures, magnetic removable, paintable grills and use their finest speaker components, which of course incorporates their exclusive beryllium inverted dome tweeter. These babies sing! We often use them even for precise audiophile level 2 channel stereo installations when floor standing speakers are not an option.

We replaced the original in wall subwoofer with the 1000 IWSUB Utopia and in-ceiling surround speakers with the matching Focal 1000 series speakers. The speakers had been wired to a closet area in another part of the home and the components were to placed on wire racks, which are subject to extreme unwanted vibrations. We modified these racks using high density fiber board and several Nordost Sort Kones to dissipate any vibrations both external and internal from the components themselves.

Over the past few years, Marantz has been hard at work elevating their already excellent home theater components to a whole new level with their top-of-the-line A/V processor and multi-channel amplifier. These units are hand-built and tested at their factory in Japan and have quickly become a go-to choice for high-end home theater enthusiasts looking for something that stands out from the typical mass-produced options.

The amplifier is designed to power up to 10 channels, or 10 individual speaker connections. However, you can combine two channels into one, which effectively doubles the power output for those connections. Since we only needed this amplifier to drive five speakers, including the subwoofer, we took advantage of this feature and “bridged” all 10 channels down to five. This doubled the power and gave us excellent headroom, delivering effortless control over the stunning Focal speakers with exceptionally low distortion. To further enhance performance, we used five Nordost balanced XLR cables, which helped lower the overall noise floor even more.

Now because the components live in a separate area of the home, Eli programed an RF Universal Remote Control to easily access every function of the system including calibration of all video and audio functions.

I spoke with my customer over the phone and he tells me he could not be happier and wanted me to give big Kudos to our team.

Thanks so much!

Bellevue Audio Installation

The Art of Sound: Crafting an Audiophile’s Dream in Bellevue

Yesterday, Eli and Michael installed this beautiful music system for one of our favorite clients in Bellevue. The system included the new Mola Mola Makua pre-amp DAC, Aesthetix Atlas Eclipse Stereo Amplifier, Focal Sopra 3 Speakers, Nordost Cabling, AC Distribution, AC Line Conditioning, QKore Grounding System along with Sort Kone Resonance Control Devices on every component.

We need to give these components a few days to break in and acclimate to the room as well as each other. Once this happens, I have the extremely difficult job of dialing the system in and listening to music. I know some of you are feeling sorry for me but please don’t start a go-fund-me account or anything. I’m sure I’ll get through this.

Nordost Sort Kones (AC) – A Customer’s Review

I present to you, a brilliant blog post written by one of our customers. Big thanks to them for taking the time to write this, we couldn’t have said it better.

Customer Review – Nordost Sort Kones – AC

“I have always been a bit skeptical of system tweaks even though I’ve tried a few over the years. Some seemed to work, some not so much…

So, when I was introduced to a number of them at a recent Nordost presentation at Nuts About Hi-Fi, I was dubious.

In the end, in spite of my skepticism, I was impressed enough to buy into one of them – the Nordost Sort Kones (AC). Was it the wine? The presenter’s pretty smile and detailed explanations? Or my ears… As I waited for them to arrive from Nordost, I wondered, and worried, and wondered.

An explanation seems in order:
Sort Kones are cone shaped and made of various metals. System components: pre amp, amp, DAC, CD player are placed or balanced on several of them – three being the minimum I saw at Nuts. There is some logic in their placement under any
component, balance being one, of course. But they also need to be placed under the areas containing the majority of the unit’s circuitry.

When they finally arrived, I was more than ready to see how they performed…

In my system, I placed them under my Aesthetic Janus pre amp and my Wadia 301 CD player in places that seemed appropriate. Then, I put on a very familiar CD and waited expectantly…

I was amazed. They made a tremendous difference in my system. Notes had more clarity, separation, presence, pace. The soundstage seemed bigger, cleaner, deeper. Everything just seems more right. How was this possible???? I have no idea. I just know that with CD after CD, and LP after LP, I just heard more, and it was not subtle. Give em a listen, I think you will be impressed.”

BIG SOUND IN A SMALL PACKAGE!

Naim’s new MU-SO Cube just arrived! This is the newest and smallest member of the Naim family of Unity network products. It literally took Eric less than 10 minutes to have it seamlessly connected to 4 other Naim systems set up in our showroom. It can play on its own or be grouped with several other Naim products.

So let’s say you already have a great listening system in your living room but would like to add some sound reinforcement to your Kitchen. It is small enough to fit on a countertop, about 8.6 inches cubed. But don’t let its size fool you. You will be impressed at how it throws a convincing full-size music presentation with plenty of muscle, even in the bass.

All I can say is the engineering team at Focal / Naim have done it again. They have risen to the challenge of allowing a music lover to easily add high quality music to any area in the home or office. It supports every digital high resolution music format available and is completely wireless other than its AC power cord. Listen to your favorite radio stations or select from literally millions of albums available over the internet. Easy to operate with the supplied remote control or their free application.

Stop in and demo this for yourself. Pretty sure you can find a spot for it.
